We are deeply committed to ocean health; it is the driving force behind our rigorous ingredient sourcing standards for our cod recipe.
1. Upcycling and Reducing Waste The cod we use is classified as ABP Category 3. This means it is sourced from the same fish caught for human consumption (whitefish fillets). Instead of allowing the remaining nutritious portions—like the frames and trimmings - to go to waste after the fillets are removed, we "upcycle" them into a high-quality mince for pets. By using the whole fish, we ensure that no part of the marine harvest is wasted, reducing the overall "footprint" of each fish caught.
2. Regulated Fisheries We prioritize sourcing from processors that operate in strictly managed waters, such as the North Atlantic. These fisheries are subject to rigorous quotas and monitoring to prevent overfishing and to mitigate the environmental impact of various fishing methods.
3. Our Commitment to Improvement We recognize that the fishing industry as a whole has work to do. By sourcing B-Grade mince, we are actively choosing to support a "zero-waste" model rather than driving the demand for "prime" cuts that would require more fish to be pulled from the sea.
We are constantly reviewing our supply chain to find the most Earth-friendly options available.
